First bake the dough for the first cake, from which you later cut out the hearts. Except for the cocoa or the food coloring you need the same ingredients for the two lots. Once the colored cake has finished baking and cooling, prick out the hearts with a cookie cutter of the desired size and set aside.
Now you can mix the second dough. Now it’s time to create the fascinating look. Just pour a thin layer of the dough into the box mold and place the hearts close together on the dough sheet. In the final step, the remaining dough is poured into the baking pan, with the hearts completely covered. Alternatively, you can first place the hearts one behind the other in the box shape and distribute the dough on both empty long sides. Recipe for box cake with heart inside
For a delicious sponge cake with heavenly orange scent you need the following ingredients:
- 400 g of flour
- 375 g butter, soft
- 375 g of sugar
- 7 eggs
- 100 ml of orange juice
- grated peel of a organic orange
- 1 pck of baking soda
- pinch of salt
- Food coloring of your choice
- Fat and flour for the mold
- Powdered sugar for dusting
For the two cakes you have to halve the ingredients or the dough. Put sugar, butter, vanilla, salt and the orange peel in a bowl and stir until creamy. Stir in the eggs one at a time, alternately with a little bit of flour. Mix the remaining flour with the baking powder and add it to the other ingredients. Stir in the orange juice. Put the dough in a greased and flour-dusted box (25 cm). Bake the cake at 175 degrees top / bottom heat for about 45-50 minutes. Proceed as described above.
If it’s quick, you can use marzipan tube paste instead of dough for the heart. Cut them into small pieces and knead them with cocoa or baking color and some powdered sugar. Then make a roll from the marzipan paste and cut a notch in the middle. Now you can easily round off the notch with your fingers and shape the bottom of the roll into a heart-shaped top. Place the finished heart roll in the center of the dough and spread the remaining dough on top.
